  • Inquiry Project- Letter sent home 4/30
    • Dear 3rd Grade Families,

In 3rd grade we have been learning about the Solar System and the planets and stars that make up our solar system. For a culminating project the students have decided to pick a planet, research it, and present it to the class. We have visited the school library for books and also the computer lab where we have researched.
Students will be required to complete a project. Their assignment is to finish the research at home using books, encyclopedias, and the internet. Students will be working in class on a research paper about their planet. This paper will follow the format of 5 paragraphs which they have been practicing in class.
At home we are asking that you complete any of the following with your child.
They will turn in one of the following:

      1. A shoebox solar system which will include a model of their planet.

      2. A poster highlighting their planet with specific facts.

      3. Power point with their planets facts

      4. Paper mache, or clay model of their planet

You can use clay, paper mache, plastic, puffy paint, glitter, draw, magazine pictures of the planets, etc. Be creative!

These projects will be due on Tuesday, May 14, 2013. The students will be expected to share them with the class and we will display the projects afterwards. We have gotten them started on their research and now we are partnering up with home to help them finish them. We realize this will require help from home but the children will gain the experience and background needed for their future years of school projects.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask!

  • ClassDojo- Letter sent home 5/1
    • Dear Parent or Guardian,

I wanted to write home today to tell you about ClassDojo, a new teacher tool I will be using to help build your student’s learning habits and boost classroom engagement.

ClassDojo allows me to track student behavior and learning skills throughout the day!

One of the great features of ClassDojo is that it allows me to send you a “behavior and skills report” every Friday by email.  My hope is that this will bring you and me closer together and help you better understand the progress of your student on a week to week basis.

I have sent a class dojo request to your email that was provided to General Mitchell. If you did not receive this request by email I have stapled instructions on how to access your child’s account and see their progress.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact me!

      Best wishes,

      Ms. Jirjis
